Preface

On this page you will find all data that I know about the ancestors of Georg Nill. If you know more or find errors please contact me. Please help to make this collection as complete and correct as possible.

Usually the data have been checked by myself. Exceptions are written in gray and have a reference that starts with [s. These data still need to be checked! Anyway, they are listed in a reference that seems to be reliable, and this is why I have listed the data here already. This may give a clue what to look for.

Please pay attention to the notes and open points. Some of them are given in the list of resources at the end of this page, some within the family tree.

I would like to thank Eberhard Hausch for his professional help. Some years ago he has indexed the church records of Ofterdingen and also has had a look to several other sources in order to understand better the relationship among the families. At that time I had started doing genealogical research but missed to note ale the references. This is why on this page you will find some data without any reference given. I still need to look up some church records again in order to add the still missing references. In case of doubt I got the data from Eberhard Hausch. Despite these missing references I want to publish my data already now, in order to share it with you.

If you would like to get informed about changes on this page, please subscribe to the Newsletter (RSS feed).

Used signs

In the listing below some genealogical symbols are used. There is no symbol for confirmation, and I have used a "c" instead; for comments a "!":

Some data can not be determined with the help of church records, because they do not exist. In these cases I have written a ¬ . To get more information it is necessary to check if other resources exist besides church records, for example tax lists, military lists or inheritance lists.

Sources

I have used these primary sources to compile the family tree. The numbers are the numbers of the microfilms that are archived at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where they can also be borrowed.

The study of Reverend Konrad Renn of Hohenems [S2.3389] is wrong. There is no baptism on 19 December 1608. In the birth records [3389.1] I can find two alternatives: * 20 April 1607 Maria, parents are Jacobus Boch, named Scheidegger, and Agata, they are not married. * 29 December 1608 Maria, parents are Jerg Boch and Agatha (Kecklin?) or similar, but I do not read Walserin. Other interesting baptisms are: 24. April 1607 Johannes, parents Jerg Boch, named Scheidegger and Agatha Walserin. 22. March 1613 Georg, parents are Georg Bockh and Agatha Walserin. It must be checked once more which Maria is the correct one, and also I would like to be sure about the name of the wife on 29 December 1608. Unfortunatelly the marriages in Hohenems are available only from 1770 on and the death records start in 1722. I doubt Konrad Renn's information that Maria Boch's parents are Georg Boch, named "Scheidegger", bricklayer and "Kirchenpfleger" (= administator of church finances?)in Hohenems and Agatha Walser.

Hans Eitel oo Barbara baptize in January 1618 Agnes, godfather and godmother are "Pfarrerin [Reverend's wife], Jacob Klotz, Hans Ho(ff)". I assume that these are the same parents and that Agnes * 1618 died early. Another Agnes, daughter of Hans Eitel (mother not listed) is baptized in 1615. Assuming that Jacob Steinhilber and Agnes Eitel were more or less of the same age, we can only choose Agnes * 1625.

Both sons of Gallus, Hans and Jakob, appear as aquirerers of property in March 1683 when under Duke Friedrich Karl as the administrator the property of the monastery in Bebenhausen in Ofterdingen ... was sold. ... Jakob, born on 11 March 1651 and youngest son of Gallus, was according to the "Lagerbuch" of 1715 among the most propertied inhabitants of the village and owned amidts the village a house beside the town hall. Even at a great age he was unresting which is proven by his tragical end, when he fell down a tree and was immediately dead while picking cherries in 1720, at an age of 70 years." [S8.1684]

Among the sponsors also Gallus Haldenwang is listed, who sponsors a brass baptistery in 1646. On 2 May his daughter Maria is baptized as the first child. ... In lifetime of the three brothers Hans, Gallus and Georg the family had already gained land, as can be seen in the Lagerbuch of 1653 where all three brothers own one third of a field "zu Rieth", probably they got the land from father or mother by heriship. Moreover there are additional four lots listed for Gallus, and three for Hans." "The oldest document reporting on Michael Haldenwang, a paper with his signatur from 1552, is located in the Staatsarchiv (= public record office) of Stuttgart. In this document seven townsmen of Ofterdingen ask duke Christoph of Württemberg to reestablish the protestant church service and restoration of the former protestant Reverend Konrad Staymlin, who was a popular pastor, whereas the catholic priest established by the abbot of Bebenhausen (in the year of 1949 because of the Augsburger Interim) was unpopular because of his annoying moral conduct. From this petition it gets clear that Michael at the time of the first inauguration of Reverend Staymlin, between 1536-1549, belonged to the villages heads of families. Moreover we can assume that inspite of missing land property he was well respected because his signatur is at the third place among those who - according to the Lagerbuch of 1565 - were propertied." [S8.26944]

Unfortunatelly I did not find any birth record in Bodelshausen. Martin Schiewe gives the hint that the church records are incomplete. There is a Martin Klotz baptizing between 1586 and 1590, but not a daughter called Catharina. According to Martin Schiewe there are listed in a muster roll of 1600: Michel Klotz, Georg Klotz the younger, Georg Klotz, Jacob Klotz, Hans Klotz, Martin Klotz, Hans Klotz the younger.

The Speidel family is listed in the church records of Ofterdingen in the years before the Thirty Year's War climax (thus in the period 1558-1637). [S12] Wilhelm Mauer writes: "The Speidel family is very common in the Steinlach Valley. It can be supposed that these Speidel first dwelled in Bodelshausen. ... Many look at Veit Speidel from Weilderstadt as their great ancestor, who has lived there at the Speidelberg and died in the battle near Döffingen in 1388. ... Also it is the wish of many Speidel to have an acknowledged coat of arms. For the Speidel of Ofterdingen ther is no own coat of arms. Therefore a proof of the truth is always mandatory for elder genealogical documents. Fact and fancy are often hard to recognize for lack of suitable documents. ... The elder Speidel-branch in Ofterdingen ... starts with Caspar Speidel (about 1535-1574), who , comming from out of town, married the resident Anna Dreytwein (Trautwein)" ("Das Geschlecht Speidel ist im Steinlachtal stark verbreitet. Eberhard Hausch notes: "His widow Barbara nee Speidelin outlived her husband for three decades; she dies not until 9.4.1671, reportedly 91 years old. That seems to be rather high, because at the birth of her last daughter she would have been 50 years old, and one would guess that simply the one and only birth date of a Barbara Speidel (30.3.1580) was taken as reference. However it needs to be recorded that also some of her descendants got very old. A final clarification will not be possible because of missing marriage records." [S5.3365] By all means the notes in the church record could be true, because in the German Wikipedia I found for the keyword Menopause that this is the point of time of the last spontaneus menstruation which normally is between 40 and 55 years of age, in average in the age of 50 or 51.
